As Found

Die Entdeckung des Gewöhnlichen

This book provides a rich overview of a cultural process that unfolded in England in the 1950s and that bears an intriguing resemblance to our current interests. The slogan "as found" comes from the architects Alison and Peter Smithson and describes an approach to thinking and practice in the visual arts, architecture, the performing arts, film, and theater. This approach played a major role for a group of young artists and architects who were on friendly terms: the Smithsons, the artist Eduardo Paolozzi, the photographer Nigel Henderson, and the writer Reyner Banham.

British Architecture and Art of the 1950s: Parallel of Life and Art, New Brutalism, Independent Group, Free Cinema, Angry Young Men, Kitchen Sink
